NEW: Fill your car with whiskey waste
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
With the sky-rocketing petrol prices, it's a no-brainer that people are looking for an alternative
One thing about South African's is that we love a good "dop" but who knew that these drinks can now be used to power cars?
Whiskey is a type of spirit (alcoholic beverage) that is distilled from malted grain, especially barley or rye.
The production of whiskey generates a lot of waste.
All the leftovers that are found after the whiskey-making process is complete are considered waste. This waste could be a main ingredient in creating an alternative fuel that could power your car and other gas-operated contraptions.

The scientist who made this discovery also reports how whiskey can be used for more than just car fuel. This alternative could be the solution to all our problems.
With petrol prices rising, many people in Mzansi joke about how it's cheaper to fill a car with cool drink as opposed to petrol.
This invention proves how we can actually turn this idea into a reality.

Furthermore, CNN reports that scientists in Scotland have used three elements of whiskey waste. A combination of draff, pot ale and spent lees, and fermentation processing to convert the byproduct into a biochemical, and thus replace petrol and diesel used in cars.
Although it may take a while before this hits the streets of South Africa, it was a very interesting concept that sparked conversation around the ongoing #petrolcrisis.
The only question on our minds is how much is this cost us. Will we be able to get frisky with he whiskey petrol or still be watching the dial?
