"My relative has offered their apartment for free, but I don't want to bruise my partner's ego"

The union between two families and a couple is a beautiful occasion, but it can also cost a pretty penny.
A young KZN couple is feeling the pinch.

Amanda is a newlywed. She just got married a few months ago during a whole pandemic, brave woman! You would think having a wedding under lockdown would be less expensive, but not so for Amanda.
She may have only had a few guests at her wedding but because of the traditional ceremonies that had to be celebrated a year ago, Amanda and her husband still forked out a relatively large amount of money.

Navigating marriage has been seamless for the high school sweethearts, they are currently renting out a small one bedroom apartment in central Durban whilst they save for their dream home. Amanda estimates that they will only be able to afford this much anticipated dream in the next two years.
So, what could be the issue?

Amanda wrote into Stacey and J Sbu for their feature on the show: #TheFixer. #TheFixer is a feature on Stacey and J Sbu's show in which the duo gives KZN listeners an opportunity to share their dilemmas that they seek advice on. Together with the help of fellow KZN listeners, Stacey and J Sbu try to help the concerned party fix their problem.
A relative of Amanda's, who currently lives in the States, has property in Durban that has been available for rent since the beginning of the year. The state of the country and the pandemic has meant that her relative has not been able to find a suitable tenant.

Knowing that Amanda and her husband are currently trying to save for their dream home, the relative has offered her apartment - which is fully furnished, for the couple to stay in for a year completely rent free.
A dream, right?! Not according to Amanda.

Amanda shares that she is afraid to even suggest the idea that she and her husband move in to her cousin's apartment because as she shares in her own words, he is a man with a lot of pride.
"A Traditional man who would take offence to even the suggestion that he may not be able to take care of his wife".
