"My mom is very formal - and awkward - with showing me love and affection" - KZN Listener
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
A mother's love is an integral part of any child's life...
This week, Stacey and J Sbu received a voice note from a KZN daughter, Thandiwe.
Thandiwe is struggling in her relationship with her mother; they have never had the typical mother-daughter relationship.
It has always been somewhat 'formal' with a lack of expression of love.
Thandiwe has always envied the relationships she has seen with other mothers and their daughters.

Thandiwe is seeking advice but doesn't know how to approach the situation with her mother.
She hopes that one day her relationship with her mom can grow into even a fraction of what she sees in other relationships.
Being the only child did not help as I did not have the shoulder of a spare to share in my sadness. My mom has just been very formal and awkward with anything that has an inclining of love and affection - I know her upbringing has played a big part in this - but I am trying.- KZN Listener
Thandiwe is often told by strangers that she should be grateful to still have her mom in her life, but she still questions whether this is sufficient enough for her.
"I am getting married soon and recently found out that I am expecting… milestones I would love my mom to be an active participant in," Thandiwe explains.

Thandiwe tried to seek advice from her father but he wasn't interested in what she wanted to say - he dismissed her.
Her dad said that her mom just "does not know" what Thandiwe wants from her.
Thandiwe further explains: "Texting and calling her is such an anxiety-filled process, we literally have nothing to talk about."
Many listeners around KZN can relate and offered some advice for Thandiwe.
