Mother causes uproar after posting picture of her child in 'Faux Locs'
The braiding and plaiting of young children's hair is always a controversial topic with parents.
A dermatologist has warned that African hair requires specific maintenance and that care in combing, plaiting, and braiding be taken to avoid negative health implications.

News has made headlines around the world after a mother posted a picture of her young daughter. The mother captioned the picture as, 'Faux Locs By Me'. Social media users took with anger to the post, much of the concern was rooted in the belief that the child could be in pain from the installation of the style and increased tension due to the weight of hair applied to her young scalp.
What are 'Faux Locs'? They are a style similar to box braids whereas loc extensions are intended to be a permanent extension of your hair. Faux Locs are installed by twisting or braiding the real hair and then wrapping additional hair around the shaft of the braid/twist.
