Justin Govender is a Johannesburg-born rapper who made the move to Durban in 2017. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and his mother getting sick, Justin has had to make the move back to the City of Gold temporarily.
Whilst on Instagram, J Sbu came across a music video by Adrenalin, the stage name of Justin - and it grabbed his attention! For J Sbu, it was not so much the incredible rap flow or lyricism, but the use of Tamal in the artistry that really made him beam with pride.
I don't know about everyone else but I had never heard of a song by an Indian rapper, especially one that makes use and showcases its heritage so beautifully.- J Sbu
Adrenalin is not a new artist, however. He has had several radio interviews and most notably appeared on 'SA's Got Talent' in 2013.
J Sbu managed to chat to the rapper this afternoon. Listen as Adrenalin shares how he got started in the music industry, his efforts into breaking down sterotypes of Indian rappers in the South African Hip Hop scene, as well as our very own J Sbu sharing some Tamal-inspired teachings he picked up when he was still in high school.
