People go a mile for a crocodile but how much greater would it be for an alligator?

There have been some bizarre traditions that we have come across on the internet.
More so when it involves the love between a man and his pet, but this story from Mexico has us lost for words.
This viral story is about a mayor from Mexico who weds an alligator in order to ensure abundance.

San Pedro Huamelula Mayor Victor Hugo Sosa wed his glorious gator bride in a colourful traditional ceremony.
Some of the key features included music that spread across town and community members who danced while imploring the indigenous leader to seal the nuptials with a kiss.

Interestingly, the small alligator's snout had been tied shut, presumably to avoid unwanted biting.
Reuters reports that the ritual marriage likely dates back centuries to pre-Hispanic times among Oaxaca state's Chontal and Huave indigenous communities, like a prayer pleading for nature's bounty.
"We ask nature for enough rain, for enough food, that we have fish in the river," said Sosa, mayor of the small fishing village on Oaxaca's Pacific coast.

The age old ritual has been met with many mixed reactions online, however no one can dispute how much this mayor cares for his community and tradition.
"It gives me so much happiness and makes me proud of my roots," said Elia Edith Aguilar, known as the godmother who organised the wedding.
We can’t wait to see what next for this fascinating town rich with tradition.
