Lesley Ncube launches his own smartphone and puts KZN on the map
Updated | By Stacey & JSbu
Growing up, Lesley Thandinkosi Ncube had two passions: playing soccer and technology. After matric, he hung up his soccer boots for good when he found his way back to his first love.
Lesley is from KwaZulu-Natal and is the proud owner of Thatha, a software and computer hardware company he started two years ago. “Thatha, which means 'take' in isiZulu, started as an online shop and I’ve always had a bigger vision for it,” Lesley says in Drum magazine.
This young man has an even bigger vision which includes producing affordable devices for Africans by Africans.
He’s recently launched his own smartphone and did the build-up for it from scratch. With Thatha, he decided to go the traditional route by starting with developing hardware, then moving on to software.
This 26-year-old self-made businessman is currently pursuing his postgraduate studies and is completing his advanced diploma in computer science.
The phone, alongside other devices that they make and program themselves, is available on their site.
