Legendary actor passes away - Mary Twala

On Saturday afternoon, the multi- talented Somizi confirmed that his mother and South African film legend, Mary Twala had died earlier this morning.

Mary Twala is an acclaimed South African actress who died at Netcare Park Lane Private Hospital around 11 am today. Somizi confirmed the death of his mother on Instagram, expressing his overwhelming sadness that his mother died on his late father's birthday.
“Today's my late father's birthday ... and my mom decided to respond to his call to join him in heaven ... The tree has fallen ... I'm shattered to the core ... but I'd be very selfish if I don't release her ... ”- Somizi

Mary Twala starred in several South African local and international productions including and not limited to Generations, Ubizo: The Calling, Hopeville, Ma Dolly, Comatose, Beyond The River, The Imposter etc. Her late husband, Ndaba Mhlongo was a legendary actor as well who was known for his uMshefane no S’dudla,’ – in Inyakanyaka, one of South Africa’s first comedy skit shows.
