KZN: Let's talk about the toxic traits of your workplace
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
Yes, let's open that can of worms...
Toxic traits within a work environment are a given, but the level and influence these have over your daily activities may differ.
This interesting question came to light when we realised that due to the decreased COVID-19 infection levels, many of us are returning to work full time.
With an increase in working hours around co-workers, toxicity is becoming inherent.

Some common toxic traits around the workplace include cliques, tattle tailing, one-upping, and especially gossip.
One listener shared their experience with us of how they decided to 'test the waters' of how quickly rumours spread in the office. It wasn't even a hot second before the alleged rumour came back to them.
Now that's toxic.
We posed the same question to our listeners to find out more about their #WorkplaceDrama:
Some of the responses were as follows:
- People always listen in to my calls! It's so annoying and they love spreading drama.
- One of the traits I see is entitlement.People believe that because they are in a certain position they are entitled to treat people differently.
- Gossip is definitely up on the list, but for me I found it was doing little things like a bit "sabotage"...interfering with work and always trying to be the favourite to the employer.
- Gossiping in the kitchen. I actually don't have the time to get involved, but the gosippers did mention that my colleague and I don't join in.
- The highlight in my company would be gossip. It's the usual story when u work with women. Jealousy and petty behaviour are a big thing too.
- Why oh why do people steal from the fridge!
