Johnny Depp has just lost an appeal in court case against a British newspaper that called him a “wife beater” and claimed there was “overwhelming evidence” that he had assaulted his ex wife.
Johnny Depp has been in the news for the last 5 years for reasons that aren't related to his illustrious movie career. His high profile break up with fellow actress Amber Heard.
In the ruling issued on Monday online, it is recorded that Johnny Depp's assaults' included head-butting Ms. Heard, repeatedly hitting her and tearing out clumps of her hair. In dismissing the case, he said the defendants had shown that what they published was “substantially true'.
In the article that Johnny Depp was suing the News Group Newspapers, the publishers of The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper, the article refers to Mr. Depp a 'wife beater' and urged the author J.K Rowling to intervene. The writer of the article also demanded that J.K Rowling from Harry Potter fame to remove Johnny Depp from the 'Fantastic Beats and Where To Find Then' movie series based on her book.
Jennifer Robinson, a lawyer for Ms. Heard, said the actress was “unable to comment on the case due to the ongoing U.S. proceedings.” But Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, Ms. Heard’s American lawyer, said in a statement that the judgment was “not a surprise.”
We are committed to obtaining justice for Amber Heard in the U.S. Court and defending Ms. Heard’s right to free speech- Elaine Charlson Bredehoft
