UPDATE: J Sbu’s plea to light the pathway for one hundred kids is heard
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
Something has been weighing on J Sbu’s heart since the return of schools across the country - which included his four-year-old Zanda.
It may have been fun and games last week when J Sbu jokingly shared his shock and horror at just how expensive the next 13 years will be when it comes to paying for Zanda’s school education…
BUT the pressure is real for J Sbu.

One of J Sbu’s favourite things to do is carpooling his son Zanda to and from school.
Working on a drive show has its perks, as it allows J Sbu to do school drop offs and pick ups with Zanda. The commutes are always a mixture of great quality bonding time with a hint of friendly banter.
Last week, when J Sbu picked up his son from school and drove him to see his grandparents, he saw something that broke his heart and reminded him of his childhood.
The neighbourhood had the rush of the school “knock off run”, with school children on their way to their respective homes. Recognising one of the kids en route, J Sbu stopped and offered him a lift. The young boy lived three houses down from J Sbu’s mom.
It was only later that evening that J Sbu found himself getting a bit emotional. The young boy he had picked up earlier was wearing school shoes that were really badly worn out. The shoes also looked uncomfortably tight for him.
Growing up, J Sbu’s parents could not afford to buy him a new uniform and school shoes, which often meant that he had to deal with some ridicule from fellow pupils.
Whilst everyone turned up to school in their shiny, out-the-box school shoes, he made do with what he had.
Which is why he took it upon himself to start an initiative he is hoping that this year will be a jump start to a yearly ‘school shoe run’.
When he chatted to Stacey about it off-air, she was so inspired that she agreed to pledge a few school shoes and encouraged J Sbu to put it out to KZN to encourage them to get involved in their community, and, if they can afford to, donate a pair of shoes.
J Sbu has set himself the start goal of 100 pairs of shoes.
The duo are also opening this up to any companies or corporations that would be interested.
