It's your birthday and you want everyone to split the bill

This went from splitting the bill to paying for all her friends. Is this fair?

There's a certain etiquette about who pays the bill when dining at a restaurant. Of course, this etiquette might not be solidified in any book (that we know of), but it works differently in different situations.

For instance, assuming that one person will pay for a first date might not be ideal.

But what happens in a group setting when everyone comes to a nice restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday? Should it be expected that the birthday person will not be required to pay and that the rest of the guests will split the bill?

It stands to reason that if you have made time to celebrate a friend's birthday, you should split the bill. That's only fair if you guys are close.

A viral video on social media shows a group of friends who went out to a fancy restaurant for a friend's birthday. The details are unclear, but the birthday girl brought a group of her friends, and her boyfriend brought his friends, too.

But the understanding from the boyfriend's side was that everyone would be paying for their meals. Things got blurry when the girl's friends demanded they split the bill equally and cover her meal, but the boyfriend's friends disagreed.

The bill was $4,600 (R83k!), and the birthday girl's friends did not shy away from ordering pricy meals.

What's worse is that at the end of the video, the birthday girl calls out her boyfriend in front of everyone, saying he should've paid for everyone's meals. Yikes!
