Introducing Sendoff: A new app that is the 'Uber Black' of funerals
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Dealing with the grief of losing a loved one is already hard enough and this new app is hoping to help with the process by taking care of the admin.
These days you can open your app store and you are absolutely spoiled for choice.
Looking for someone to just cuddle with? There's an app for that.
Parked your car and can't find it? There's an app for that.
One thing that you probably never thought you would see is an app for is funerals. But given that there is an application for everything else, it was only a matter of time before someone, somewhere would come up with this idea.
And that someone was Zolani Matebese and Thabisile Sethaba.
The two co-founders came up with the idea in 2019 while helping out at a funeral and had thought to themselves, "there has got to be an easier way to do this?!".
So this idea for a service provider within the death care industry, that focuses on providing support and reliable services, was born.
I firmly believe in business that does good. I see Sendoff as a timely, sorely needed intervention in the death care industry. Having dealt with loss ourselves, we can empathize in ways the rest of the industry doesn't.- Zolani Matebese (Sendoff CEO and co-founder)
The company is proudly South African and Sendoff is also the world's first full-service funeral arrangement app!
Their aim is to digitise the entire funeral arrangement process while also focusing on change within what they consider a "broken" industry.
There might already be applications that will help assist you in writing obituaries, finding gravesites, etc. there is no full service arranger.
The app has various checklists that detail all the various steps that unfortunately have to be dealt with when losing a loved one. Through Sendoff, people will be able to arrange everything from the transport of the deceased from the home or hospital where they had passed on to choosing flowers, a casket or urn, and anything else possible funeral related.
Through all of this, the main hope for the company is to help relieve not only stress for those going through this terribly emotional process, but they want to help those grieving to avoid the continuous trauma of having to constantly visit funeral parlours and limit those taxing interactions.
Through the app's development, the main principle that guided them along the way was putting the user first and so the app is incredibly easy to use as well. This all will have people focusing on their families during this time instead of having to deal with admin.
My first job was at a Funeral home and it was clear to me from that time that there was something missing. I want anyone dealing with a recent loss to choose Sendoff as a reliable and safe funeral management app that guarantees convenience when you need it the most.- Thabisile Sethaba (Sendoff COO and co-founder)
The Sendoff app is already available on Google Play. It will be available on the Apple App Store and the Huawei AppGallery from the 5th of June.
Inspired by the popular meme of "How it started v How its going" we thought we could show the difference between the old and new ways of arranging a funeral in a simple, visual video snippet. #sendoffapp #funeralapp pic.twitter.com/4LVsnJYrhD
