Haven't heard of 'Squid Game'? Time for us to tell you what's up!
Every so often there is a new, but unknown series that pops up on your Netflix home screen and you might ask yourself if it's worth the watch since you haven't heard about it yet.

A day goes by and suddenly this series you scanned over has blown up to become the hottest, must-watch series of the year.
We're talking about the 'Tiger King'-effect or as some might call it the 'Bridgerton'-hype hypothesis.

Both 'Tiger King' and 'Bridgerton' seemingly came out of nowhere and became our greatest obsessions (hello Halloween 2020 costumes).
There is a multitude of Netflix series that have gone on to achieve the same trajectory and now there is a new contender that has entered the chat.

Let us introduce you to 'Squid Game'.
In the past years, the world has collectively become more and more obsessed with all things Korean.

From K-pop world domination to K-drama bingeing, the hype is real and with the release of 'Squid Game', it is still going strong.
In fact, the new Korean series is so good that it's about to become Netflix's most-watched series, a record that is currently held by 'Bridgerton'.

While attending a Q&A at the International TV Academy Netflix's Head of Global TV, Bela Bajaria, was asked if she thinks that a non-English language series could top the list of most-watched programs and she was confident it would happen.
The show premiered on the 17th of September and was an instant hit as it reached the number one spot in 90 countries in only 10 days. From Oman to Bolivia, the people have not been able to get enough of 'Squid Game'.

It is also the first-ever Korean original series to reach the number one spot on Netflix USA and it has maintained that position for more than a week.
In order to beat 'Bridgerton' it would have to surpass the record of 82-million households.

But what is it about?
According to IMDB, it follows along as "Hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children's games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits with deadly high stakes. A survival game that has a whopping 40-million-dollar prize at stake."
