How to view and pay your traffic fines online
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
Got a flashing light surprise? No worries! We’ve devised an easy-to-follow blog that shows you how to view and pay your traffic fines quickly and easily online.
Driving is a breeze until you see those flashing lights in your rearview mirror. Traffic fines happen, but that doesn't mean dealing with them has to be a hassle.
If you’ve misplaced your fine and need to know how much you owe or you’re looking for a convenient way to pay for it, we'll walk you through the simple process of viewing and paying your traffic fines online, saving you time and frustration.
This guide uses the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act (AARTO) website. AARTO is in charge of administering, collecting, and adjudicating fines for traffic offences.
Steps to view and pay your fine:
Head to the AARTO website: You won't need the link we provided earlier! A quick web search for "AARTO checking traffic fines" should do the trick.
New User? Sign Up! If it's your first time, create an account by signing up. Remember to verify your email address (check your spam folder if you don't see the confirmation).
Log In and View Fines: Once signed in, you'll see a list of your outstanding traffic fines.
Choose Your Payment Method: Pick your poison! AARTO offers a variety of convenient options, including Snapscan, Zapper, credit/debit cards, EFT, and even cash payments.
Relax, They've Got Your Receipt: After payment, you'll receive an electronic receipt for your records. Municipalities may take some time to issue them officially.
The AARTO website also offers a "query my fine" option. For security reasons, your ID number, driver's licence number, and South African IP address are required. While it can be helpful, some people miss notifications about fines in the mail. So, using the online portal to view and pay is the recommended approach.
By following these steps, you can easily manage your traffic fines online. Remember, early payment often comes with discounts, so don't delay!
