Motorists in KZN face some of the highest car licence renewal fees in the country.
Renewing a car licence in South Africa can be a costly and time-consuming process, with fees varying significantly across provinces.
In KZN, motorists face some of the highest licensing fees in the country.
According to recent data, although KZN has maintained its 2024 licencing rates, it's still the most expensive province for car licence renewals.
For example, a small hatchback weighing between 750kg and 1,000kg costs R474 annually to licence in KZN, compared to R432 in Gauteng and R390 in the Western Cape.
Motorists in KZN should also be aware of the penalties for late licence renewals. A 21-day grace period applies, after which a penalty of 10% of the annual fee is charged for each month overdue.
To avoid these penalties, you must renew your car licence on time. Motorists can renew their licences at their local licencing office or through the online platform, if available.
