“Home is where the heart is” is a cliché for a reason and it can be terribly emotional having to say goodbye to your home.
That’s why having ownership of your home, the place where you raised a family, made memories or just lived your life, can hold so much significance.

But not everyone is lucky enough to have that privilege.
Recently, during a public engagement, Mayor Kaunda unveiled various plans for the 2021/2022 financial year that included several service delivery initiatives (for the wards in the north-central region of the city), but many other issues were raised as well.

Residents from the area wanted to have their say and some of their biggest concerns included water loss, road conditions, utility debt, etc. and relevant officials quickly responded to all the issues that had been raised.
Something that was also very important to Mayor Kaunda was that many residents had been denied the rights to own property or land during the apartheid era and he wanted to set it right.
As a caring government, we need to fast track the delivery of title deeds so that we can bring dignity and security of tenure to our people. To mitigate the title deeds backlog, we have resolved to set up a special team, with Human Settlements Unit, that will be dedicated to fast tracking the delivery of title deeds to deserving beneficiaries.- Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda (eThekwini Municipality)

One of the local residents finally lucky enough to receive the title deed to their home was great-great-grandmother, Mntwanase Ester Zungu, who was incredibly happy and thankful for this gesture.
I know many of my peers who died without receiving title deeds, they died without owning their houses. Mayor Kaunda has wiped my tears of many years, and I’m glad that even if my ancestors invite me to the other side, I will go without hesitation as I would have left my children a home- Mntwanase Ester Zungu
