The question of the day that is weighing heavy on our hearts is: "Is it socially acceptable to invite your work colleagues to personal functions?"

When pivotal moments such as birthdays, weddings, and baby showers happen, it causes us to reflect on who really matters in our lives.

Sometimes when something big comes up and a work friend's invite gets "lost in the mail", it can forever change the relationship.

We decided to ask some of our colleagues at ECR what their stance is.

Many mentioned that "If it's away from work, it's not only socially acceptable but it's usually expected," whereas others were quick to shut the question down immediately with a hard no.

Here are some questions that will help you determine if you should invite that work friend to your personal function:

  • Are you "real" friends?
  • Are you already inviting more than half the office?
  • Can you avoid wedding/birthday talk at work?
  • Do you want to mix your personal and professional life?
