This DJ got hustled out of his money, but he's learnt from his mistakes...
One of Durban's favourite DJs, Austin Cassim, has reported that he has been swindled out of his time and money.
Austin Cassim is a young DJ who currently resides in Gauteng, yet visits various provinces around South Africa for gigs. Anyone who has heard him play alone or in partnership with his brother, Kyle Cassim, will tell you that he brings all the vibes and knows how to turn a party into a 'jol'.
Here is his unfortunate story where he was scammed by an event manager below:

As mentioned in the video above, Austin was offered an incredible opportunity for a private gig where he would have the creative freedom to set up the stage and select other DJs with an unlimited budget.
In his attempt to go "full send" and make this private event one to remember, he faced a lot of issues with regards to communication between all individuals involved.
Things went south when the event manager that Austin was dealing with pressured him into lending him R350 for 'petrol' for the function, which was set to be returned at midnight.

Austin mentions: "Eventually, I agree to pay this guy and everyone goes quiet. I don't hear back from him and come midnight, my money was never returned."
Austin has provided us the exchange of text messages below:

As seen in the text chain above, this individual tried to take Austin for a ride.
The drama didn't end there. Leading up to the event, he was further met with frivolous excuses.
Austin says: "Everyone starts getting very quiet, no one is replying to me and every effort I make to contact them they say 'sorry I'm in a meeting.'"
The story takes a turn when the event manager says to Austin that they need to chat about a commission before they move forward with the event. With much caution, Austin agrees to a share of 5% of what he quoted (bear in mind, this man already owes Austin money).
The event day comes, I don't hear from anybody and I get blocked from all the numbers- Austin Cassim
And just like that, a fake event, fake emails, and a fake phone number to make R350.
A sad but important story that many people in the entertainment industry can relate to.
Let this be your warning to take every precaution when getting involved with private events.
