As one can imagine, this particular situation is quite heartbreaking for many South Africans who have an affinity towards animals.

The Instagram comments were somewhat divided. Here's what they had to say:
One user said: "People build a bond with their pets, some even deeper then with other humans. The fact that you’re okay with her pain from this loss is cruel. You don’t deserve her."
