The centrepiece of this announcement is GPT-4o. This next-generation AI boasts significant improvements over its predecessor, GPT-4. It's faster, smarter, and it can now handle communication across various mediums such as text, voice, and, most notably, video.
“You can now take a picture of a menu in a different language and talk to GPT-4o to translate it, learn about the food's history and significance, and get recommendations,” OpenAI said in a statement.
The future looks even brighter with the upcoming launch of a new Voice Mode. This mode will allow users to have real-time conversations with ChatGPT and even utilise video chat to ask questions about live events, like a sports game.
OpenAI is rolling out these core functionalities of GPT-4o to the free tier of ChatGPT, with usage limits in place. Paid tiers offer progressively more features and higher usage limits.
