There is nothing like coming home to your mother cooking or enjoying a boerewors roll that your dad just took off the braai.

Food is a big part of any culture and we're not trying to say that South African culture is the best, but we definitely have the best food.

Just like the people that make up our country, traditional South African dishes are diverse, colourful, and full of flavour!

From spicy Durban curries to Cape Town's larger-than-life gatsbys and, of course, the classic shisanyama.

Is your mouth watering right now or is it just us?

Anyway, as it turns out, South African cuisine is taking over the world (as it should) and for those of us who might one day find ourselves travelling abroad and craving some lekker local delicacies, there are a few options out there.

The only problem is you could end up paying R118 for a mielie.

Of course, the prices of these menu items are relative to the local economies, but if you move to one of these areas, end up getting a bit homesick, and want a little taste of home, you might find you can't bring yourself to fork out that amount of cash for a samoosa.

The top-rated South African restaurant in the city is run by South Africans, which is clear to see after one look at the menu.
