Herein lies a classic life lesson: Don't take anything for granted...

The European Athletics Under-18 Championship Men's 200m race has left many people wide-eyed and shocked.

A 16-year-old runner suffered a humiliating loss when he made a rash assumption just before the finish line. The champs, held in Slovakia before the Olympics, showed top athletes competing against one another.

"Jake Odey-Jordan was comfortably ahead of his peers almost instantly, with commentators for the race saying that he was ‘blasting his way around the bend’ as soon as the race started. But, just moments before crossing the finish line, the 6-foot-tall Brit eases off to look over his shoulder and see where his opponents were."
