#BestOf2021: Where is Durban's youngest speedster now? Mom shares update!
Updated | By Stacey and J Sbu
A picture is worth a thousand words and we just had to find out what is happening in this one!
Earlier this year, we were doing our usual social media scrolling when we came across a picture that not only put a smile on our face, but also had us asking "what exactly is happening here?"

As per usual, we had to find out more and we channeled our inner detectives as we set out on the search to find the little speedster that was seemingly caught redhanded in his convertible.
And so we were introduced to budding car-enthusiast, Ziyad Hanif!

His mom, Lamees, was kind enough to share the story of his first traffic cop run-in (which you can read more about below) but how has he been behaving since then? Or has he been living his best 'Fast and Furious' life?
We got a very special video from Ziyad and it seems like he's still thriving and driving.

Take a listen as Ziyad's mom, Lamees Hanif, explains what happened before the picture was taken:
There are few things that can strike such fear into the heart of the bravest men and women like being pulled over by a traffic cop.

Your hands start to sweat, you run various scenarios through your head thinking, "what have I done?! Was I going the speed limit?", and you might even break into a cold sweat.
Even though he isn't even the legal driving age yet, little Ziyad also felt the fear when he recently had his very first run-in with a traffic cop at Durban North beach.

Ziyad's mother, Lamees, shared with us that he had just turned one on the 18th of April and for his birthday he got the coolest set of wheels.
We got the car for him for his first birthday because of his love for cars and we just loved the way his eyes lit up and the expression that he had on his face when he first saw the car. He was thrilled. He is truly the apple of our eyes and we are proud to be his parents. Never a dull moment with him.- Lamees Hanif
Since he had this new and exciting convertible, his parents decided to take him out so he could go for a spin.
Little did they know that things would be taking a very nerve-wracking turn.
Lamees said that two weeks ago they headed out and while they were out there, they noticed a policeman was also hanging around the area, checking for unlicensed vehicles and expired discs.

The policeman approached Ziyad and jokingly asked the one-year-old for his license and registration.
Ziyad might still be a tiny boy but his reaction to the confrontation was exactly what any of us would have done. According to his mother, Ziyad had the cutest look on his face before standing up and running away!
I was able to snap a quick pic before he tried to get away after realizing he was in big trouble. Even though it was really all for the fun of it credit goes to the policeman for being a kind human being.- Lamees Hanif
Luckily, Ziyad and the policeman were able to work things out and he was able to continue cruising.
His mother also said that he is a sweet, smart boy with a great sense of humour, so this hilarious moment did not come as much of a shock.
Hopefully, Ziyad will always remain a responsible driver, especially when he's older and has his actual licence!
