Bernie Sanders turns his meme into support for a worthy cause

US Senator, Bernie Sanders, who has become the most famous man on social media of late, has decided to do something about his now famous meme. T-shirt, anyone?

The man behind our meme of the year so far, Bernie Sanders, was captured at President Joe Biden’s inauguration by Brendan Smialowski, a Washington-based photojournalist who covers politics.

In the picture that has taken social by a storm, Bernie is seen with his arms and legs crossed, wearing oversized mittens and a practical brown coat, seated on a folding chair in keeping with social-distancing protocols, as one should.

But since then, the image has gone viral and has been photoshopped into historical moments, movie scenes, famous paintings, and so much more.

But Sanders didn't stop there. Seeing all the love the meme has been getting, he decided to start a sale of the Chairman Sanders Crewneck, printed with his meme.

To put the cherry on top of the project, he decided that all profits that will be made from the sweater will be donated to Meals on Wheels Vermont.

Meals on Wheels is known for delivering food to those whose circumstances make it difficult for them to buy or make meals of their own.

The Sanders sweater, which costs $45 (R684), sold out on the same day of its release.

During his appearance on 'Late Night', Sanders gave Jen Ellis a shout-out for helping his meme go viral.

He said, telling host Seth Meyers:

We wonder what Sanders will come up with next...
