Mzansi's famous biscuit selection is currently showcasing their owner, Leonard Baumann, who is 100 years old.
Not only is the biscuit guru of assorted choices doing the most at 100, but he is also right here in Durban.
Leonard is also arguably Durban’s oldest driver, as you will still find him driving his grandfather’s Mercedes Benz SL to his office every morning... after biscuits and tea, of course!

IOL shares: "The centenarian from Cowies Hill took over the company from his grandfather, John Baumann – who started the Choice Assorted range of biscuits – one of many businesses he has been involved in over the years."
Leonard Baumann says: “My grandfather began a legacy for us as he started the famously known biscuit-and-bread hub and the favourite Bakers biscuits ‘Choice Assorted’ range, which is a favourite in many homes in South Africa."

'The biscuit man' was born in eMpangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal. He later moved to Durban to attend Durban Prep Primary school when he was 7.
Soon after matriculating at Durban High School in 1945, he moved to Johannesburg where he studied for a degree in accounting.

After Leonard returned to the 031, he joined the family business and incorporated his cutting edge ideas into the biscuits.
In 1984, it was time for Leonard to take a step back. “No one took over from me, so we sold everything. Over the years, I have learnt to be compassionate towards people. We had happy employees who were happy to work with us and for us, and I believe it is because we were compassionate,” he said.
