Are you a generous tipper?

Are you a generous tipper?

When it comes to services rendered, just how generous are you, KZN? Do you use a different assessment for a restaurant bill, the car guard tip or perhaps the hairdresser tip?

These are just some of the questions Stacey & JSbu posed on Wednesday afternoon on their show. This after the two came across the below restaurant bill on Facebook:

At first, Stacey & JSbu were quick to applaud the generosity that was displayed from a bill that cost R820. The payer gave R3,820, which means that they gave the waiter a tip of R3,000. This tip is even more generous when you put into perspective the recent devastation the coronavirus pandemic has had on the restaurant industry in South Africa and the world.

On Monday, Stacey & JSbu actually touched based with the CEO of RASA, which is the body that looks out for the interests of restaurateurs.

Most restaurants around the world now have a set tipping percentage. For every x amount of meal, a percentage is accounted for as a tip. This is not to say that a patron can not tip more than what is stipulated and there are also restaurants that let the patrons decide on their own what they would like to tip.

There is a lot that goes into tipping for some people, such as: the actual service of the waiter, the food and the attention to detail. The bill has been known to cause a lot of tension for many friends and romantic partners, with debates on whether one or the other is being too generous or perhaps too stingy.

This conversation, though, also filters through to other industries such as hairdressers and car guards.

Let us settle this once and for all, KZN. When it comes to tipping, are you more on the generous or stingy scale?
