This viral phenomenon has us in complete shock. It has been shared that several residents in Zimbabwe are cutting off their toes and selling them due to the high cost of living in their country.

This has started to become a norm in the country as many do not know what else to do to make ends meet.

It is a commonly known fact that a big toe and toes in general are essential.

The big toe plays an essential role in arch stabilisation during a mid-stance and during the take-off phase when walking and running. Without this stabilisation, the foot would have limited-to-no shock absorption capability, and very limited propulsive force.

The pinkie toe is the smallest toe but it's still crucial in helping you to maintain your balance.

These two toes are the common toes that are being sold.

Due to a lack of job creation, this is what the people have ultimately resorted to.

The market for these body parts is large, with some toes going for R320,000 to R620,000 ($20,000 to $40,000).

The difference in cost is directly proportional to the size.

What sparked this phenomenon is a group of people who are from the Ximex Mall. This whole conversation started with social media posts.

Although we are unable to verify exactly what's going on in this area, a source has confirmed that the story is just something which one guy jokingly shared with his colleagues and has now been blown out of proportion.

Many users have opted for a humorous response, saying that people are doing "cryptoe to foot their bills", while others are distraught that someone would resort to this for money.
