If you are a potato lover, you know how the slightest issue with a potato will lead to the downfall of the dish as a whole. 

It has been reported that weather conditions in some parts of South Africa are affecting the quality of the potatoes being harvested.

Potatoes come mainly from Limpopo (19%), the Western Free State (16%), the Sandveld area (15%), and the Eastern Free State (11%).

Reportedly, the Eastern Cape has average to below-average yields with relatively good rains. 

Although, in the Western Cape, rainy and hot weather has further hampered quality.

Potatoes SA reports that this decrease in quality will have a devastating effect on price, which will carry over into the next three months.

As per a YouTube video posted by AMT, Dr Johnny Van Der Merwe has mentioned: "Potatoes from western production areas are in relatively high quality and good condition, while higher rainfall towards eastern parts resulted in slightly lower quality on the markets. Potato prices may decrease this week."
