3 Durban beaches closed ahead of long weekend

Beachgoers are being warned to stay out of the water at three Durban beaches due to poor water quality.

Ahead of the Easter weekend, eThekwini Municipality has released an updated list of Durban’s beaches and public pools that are currently open or closed.

As of April 7, three beaches in Durban are closed due to the poor quality of water. According to the municipality, 19 beaches are still open to the public.

The Durban beaches currently closed due to poor water quality are:

  • Laguna Beach

  • Doonside Beach

  • Winklespruit

“This status of beaches and pools will be updated as and when their status changes. You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim. Please keep our beach areas clean by using bins for litter,” the municipality said.

The following beaches are open from 6 am to 6:30 pm:

  • Bronze Beach

  • Point Beach

  • Umhlanga Main

  • Umgababa

  • Toti Main Beach

  • Pipeline Beach

  • Ushaka

  •  Addington

  • Brighton

  • Country Club

  • North Beach

  • Bay Of Plenty

  • South Beach

  • Thekwini Beach

  • Anstey’s Beach

  • Wedge Beach

  • Mdloti Main

  • Westbrook

  • Battery Beach

  • Reunion

The following swimming pools are open from 6 am to 6 pm on weekdays, and 9 am to 5 pm on Sundays and public holidays:
