How does one deal with a friend who wants more?
“My love for you runs deeper than just being a friend, I
want to be with you, I cannot see myself being with anyone else”
Those are the words that an acquaintance of Thandolwethu heard from her best friend of 12 years!
This revelation came about when the two ladies happened to bump into each other. One of the things they have in common is that they both have 'Fundsbands'- "A close male friend whom everyone assumes there is something romantic with the two of you."
The acquaintance was in disbelief. She felt betrayed that her friend had been harbouring these so-called feelings for 12 years whilst getting to know her deepest, darkest secrets and vulnerabilities. She started to question the friendship in its entirety. She claims that since her 'fundsbands' revelation, they have not spoken in a year.
Sure, there are some case studies of partners who were friends for years before dating and who are happily still together. But what happens when the feelings are not reciprocated?
