#UnpopularOpinion: People in jail should not be allowed to vote
Updated | By Damon Beard
A listener shares why she thinks people in prison should not be allowed to vote.

Listen to East Coasters as they debate whether or not people in prison should be allowed to vote.
Hi Damon
As we prepare for the elections, I thought I would share my unpopular opinion, which is that people in prison and with criminal records should not be allowed to vote.
I was recently shocked to learn that people in prison have a right to vote and that they even vote before we do.
We have a crime problem in this country and everyday we read horrific headlines, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to let people who do such things have a say in the future of our country.
I had a discussion about this with my husband and he says I am completely wrong cause everyone should have a voice because they are citizens and we fought for democracy so this could be possible.
I could not disagree more,. I think people should be stripped of a right to vote until they have proven they they are rehabilitated and are ready to be upstanding citizens and then be able to vote.
