'Tis the day where one is bombarded by public displays of affection and questions about what your plans are with your significant other.
I am talking about Valentine's Day, of course. Some people take their loved ones out for a romantic dinner at a restaurant while others may choose this day to propose or get married.

Valentine's Day is also a day which a lot of singletons, like me, dread. Where they either hibernate in their cocoons and throw pity parties for themselves or go on an anti-Valentine's Day mission.
Now I have been on both ends, I have openly shared that I have struggled in the love department in the last few years, but I have made a promise to myself that I shall not be bitter this year.
Why should I wait for someone else to make me feel special? So I sat down and wrote a list of five things that I plan to do to survive Valentine's Day:
Buy myself flowers
Flowers are guaranteed to brighten up anyone's day- so use them to brighten yours!
Stay away from Rom-com movies
Next thing you are sitting in front of the TV sobbing and having a tub of ice-cream. Instead, watch something empowering like Tina Turner's 'What's love got to do with it'.
Compile a playlist of your favourite songs
And by that, I don't mean Whitney Houston's 'I will always love you'
Flirt with a stranger
Put a spring in someone else's step. Compliment them.
Drink and be merry (responsibly of course)
Have a glass of your favourite alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) drink. Spoil yourself!
What are your tips for surviving Valentines Day as a singleton? Share them below and you could win 1 of 2 vouchers valued at R600 from The Skin and Body experts M.E.G to pamper yourself and a friend. T's and C's apply. Goodluck!
