Thandolwethu: Getting a pap test is not an option, it's a must!
Updated | By Thandolwethu
The KZN Department of Health has released a catchy new song in an effort to promote the importance of early screening for cervical cancer.
According to CANSA, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer amongst South African women. What a chilling statistic.
October was Cancer Awareness Month and the Department of Health embarked on a nationwide initiative under the theme 'Together we can beat cancer', in an effort to educate South African women about the importance of having a Pap Smear test. The test is a diagnostic procedure which is done to detect early signs of cancers of the cervix.
Sihle Ndima, of Umlazi-based Grow Khula Multimedia Productions, worked with the department and East Coast TV to create a catchy song about why it's important for women to get a pap test.
The Department of Health encourages women to make their health a priority all year round by knowing what is normal for their bodies, and to be aware of the signs and symptoms of cancer.
We as women do so much for others in our lives. Make it your duty, no, your priority, to go to your nearest doctor or clinic to get the test done. As they always say, prevention is better than cure.
