Should you always be upfront about your gender before a relationship?

I was catching up on one of my favourite programs in America and one of the hosts posed a question to one of his guests about transgender people. He made the point that if someone is transgender and they lie about their gender before or after hooking up with you, should there be repercussions?

It’s a good point, surely by not telling me the truth you’re taking away my choice?
