Exclusive interview with TKZee on 'Halloween' release anniversary
Updated | By Thandolwethu
In an exclusive interview with East Coast Drive's Bongani Mtolo and Thandolwethu, members of the legendary band TKZee reflect on the last twenty years.
Few people would bat an eye if you told them the greatest kwaito album is TKZee’s Halloween.
With hits like Dlala Mapantsula, Mambotjie and We love this place the album soundtracked South Africa’s post-94 moment and helped foreshadow a new millennium when it was released in 1998.
Twenty years later with over 200,000 records sold and 4 SAMAs Halloween is a landmark in South African music. On Friday, 26 October East Coast Radio pays homage to TKZee and their iconic album.
In an exclusive in-depth conversation, East Coast Urban host Thandolwethu and Bongani Mtolo of East Coast Drive talk to TKZee’s Zwai Bala and honorary member Sbu MaLawyer.
In this roundtable they discuss the music, their inspiration as well the legacy and the place TKZee holds in the hearts of music-lovers. Zwai and Sbu also speak candidly about the highs and lows of the music industry and adjusting to fame as young musicians.
