Question 1:

Can you only enter online this year?

Yes. In line with going green, this year only online entries will be available. The fastest way to enter is by going to www.bigwalkdurban.co.za. We have a brand-new website for this year’s event, designed to provide easy access to all the information about the event. There are big red 'Buy Tickets Here' buttons that will take you to the secure online entry form.

Question 2:

Is it safe to enter online and pay with my credit card?

Yes, it is safe. When you enter online, your personal information is sent to us directly over a secure connection and we store this so on our systems so that, amongst other things, we can get your race pack made and look after you in case of a medical emergency while you are walking.

When it comes to payment, the security is taken a few steps further. We as an event do not handle your credit card information. This information is sent directly from your web browser to our bank who then process the transaction. When the transaction is complete, the bank simply tells us whether it was successful or not.

Additional protection that we are using for online payments is a system called 3D secure for MasterCard and a similar system called Verified by Visa for Visa cards. These systems allow your bank to ask you during the payment process to authorise that these transactions are valid. The process differs from bank to bank but most banks either use a One-Time-Pin that is SMSed to you or a message that pops up on your phone which asks you to respond to approve the transaction.

Question 3:

I don’t have a credit card, what are my other options?

If you don’t have a credit card that is not a problem. We also accept payments by EFT. On both the confirmation email that we send with your entry and the confirmation page on the website, we provide our bank details. We also provide you with a unique reference for you to use when making payment. It’s important that you use the correct reference number when paying so that we can find your payment and assign it to your entry. We have people who use the wrong reference and in some cases, we are unable to match the payment to an entry. We must receive your payment within 72 hours of entering or your entry will be deleted.

Question 4:

How much does it cost to enter?

5km - R95

5km Fun Run - R95

10km - R95

20km (timed) - R90

Question 5:

If people have questions, who do they direct them to?

The first place to check is the event website. All the information about the event is there. If you need help with an entry or have a question not covered on the website, we have a dedicated support team for the event. They can be reached by emailing [email protected] or by calling 086 11 00 149.

Question 6:

Can I enter on the day or at race pack collection?

Once the event has reached its limit or the closing date has passed no late entries can be accepted at race pack collection or on the day of the event.

Question 7:

Do young children accompanying their parents have to enter?

Yes. Every walker on the route must be wearing their own race number. This is primarily a safety concern. Should anything happen to a walker on the route, the event is then equipped with information about the walker to assist in resolving the situation.

Question 8:

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately, no pets are allowed.

Question 9:

Are strollers or prams allowed?

Strollers and prams are permitted but not recommended due to the volume of people taking part in the event.
