Listen: Lalla Hirayama talks about her struggle with PCOS
Updated | By Stacey Norman
September is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) awareness month. Popular TV host Lalla Hirayama joined Stacey to talk about the battle she faced with the syndrome and how she lives with it.
Listen to Stacey's interview with Lalla Hirayama, or read the details under the podcast.
Lalla Hirayama is a face that most of us can recognise from a mile away.
According to TVSA, the 30-year-old beauty "is a Japanese-born South African dancer, actress, model, television presenter and voice artist best known for hosting a number of Vuzu shows, including Masters of Rhythm and V-Entertainment."
Apart from everything that's going on in her life, she has also made time to spearhead a movement of change that she holds near and dear to her heart.
Lalla and I met recently, and she bravely opened up with her struggle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). It is a hormonal syndrome, and according to Lalla's uncle, Dr Russell Cooper, almost 70% of women have it but don’t know that they do. Some doctors say that 1 in 7 women have PCOS.
Back in 2015, she noticed that she was highly stressed out, she was moody, gaining weight, and suffered from abdominal pains. While it seemed like PMS symptoms, it wasn't. It even affected her memory and her quality of life.
Lalla takes care of her body and is conscious about what she eats, that's why it came as a shock when she was diagnosed as pre-diabetic.

During the interview, beautiful Lalla really dived into what she experienced during her time after being diagnosed with PCOS.
Instead of falling into a pit of shame and despair, Lalla rose up and decided to partner up with her uncle, who happens to be an expert in understanding hormone-related illnesses. This was when Life Source was created, a product to help with metabolic and hormonal dysfunctions
It was really such a pleasure to chat with Lalla and "doc uncle", as I affectionally called him.
After listening to this interview, if you suspect that you may be suffering from PCOS, I urge you to consult your general practitioner to seek professional medical advice.
