What are some of the white lies you tell your kids?
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
'Your face is going to freeze that way', Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, babies delivered by a stork - these are just some of the little white lies we tell our little ones.
The other night, I said to my kids that if they didn't stop horsing around after their bath and get dressed that Jack Frost was going to come. That's something they have heard me say a few times (and it's worked, I might add).

But this time I could not hoodwink my daughter. This time, she looked at me square in the eyes and informed me that herself and her brothers were very much aware there was no such thing as this is make-believe thing (you can only imagine the internal shock I was experiencing).
So instead of making up some rubbish story, I smiled with almost a 'you've got me' grin.

Listen, little fibs are a part of raising children and could even be an important part of their development. For as long as possible, it's nice to keep their sense of wonder going. It also helps in getting them to play by the rules.
Here are some of the white lies parents tell their children from Parents.com:
- "I tell my kids when the ice-cream truck plays its song it is out of ice cream." - Michelle Barneck
- "I told my five-year-old she couldn't eat cake 30 minutes before bed or she might get nightmares... now every time she eats cake she asks what time is it." —Brittany Schnicker
- "You're allergic to McDonald's/Oreos/fruit punch." — Amnah Ibrahim
Okay, some of those are just 'WOW!'.
As a parent, I know we are occasionally guilty of telling a white lie here and there, right? Maybe a fabricated story when the tooth fairy doesn't remember to leave the money?!
So, parents, I'm giving you a moment to confess your white lies by commenting below. I'm interested to know if I'm not alone here.
