The reason behind waterproof phones in Japan

Manufacturers in Japan are coming out with more and more waterproof phones and you will never guess the reason why?
We are well aware that the world we live in is continuously connected and plugged into the internet.

As with everything, this has its positive and negative points.
I love being connected, but in saying that my phone has a way of creeping into spaces where it shouldn't be, like while out at a restaurant. Yes, sure, I like to be in touch with the babysitter, but that also turns into a quick spin on Instagram, doesn't it?

In Japan, they have made phones waterproof for the most insane reason. The fact of the matter is that Japanese women are so addicted to their phones they can't even bare to shower without them. Yip, you read that right.
The first waterproof phone was the Casio Canu 502S, which was released all the way back in 2005. Motorola then jumped on the bandwagon and released the Defy in 2010.
Using your phone in the shower is taking it one step too far, don't you think? Each to their own, I suppose?
