#GetReal: Meet Velile and Helen
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
After reading Jane’s article on the March Vogue
cover, these two strong and independent women decided they needed to #GetReal
about their imperfections.
Meet Velile
Velile Sibanda is a 30-year-old Quantity Surveyor/Estimator from Umhlanga. She decided to take part in the shoot to inspire women to believe they don’t need to be a certain way to be considered beautiful.

She describes a real woman as someone who is not defined by their physical attributes but how they carry themselves. The things she loves most about her body are her hips and curves.
Velile’s aim is to show people that everyone comes in different shapes and sizes and more focus should be placed on who we are as individuals and not our appearance.

Meet Helen
The 56-year-old Helen Houghting Pereira
hails from Birdswood in Richards Bay. She has been married for 30 years and has
two kids – a 28 year old son and a 21 year old daughter. She works as an
HR/Payroll administrator for a chemical company.
Her aim of taking part in the shoot is to highlight that you do not have to be beautiful to be gorgeous. She describes herself as short and pale skinned but does not allow her appearance to get in the way of living her best life. She loves fashion and is obsessed with trying new funky hairdo’s.
Her advice to women (which she takes from her mother) is: "If you cannot love yourself, you cannot expect others to love you.”
