I was recently approached by a KZN-based man who wanted to share his story with the listeners of East Coast Radio.
#BeingMe is a real-life story of a gay Indian man living in KZN, and the road he had to walk to get where he is today.
"I want to share my story to create awareness of what most gay people go through. More often than not, we are tossed away like trash, and our stories are forgotten. I hope that by sharing my life experiences and bringing it to life through this podcast series, someone may be moved and know that they are not alone," he told me.
The deal was that we would air his story in a series of podcasts, but on one condition - he wanted to remain anonymous and his voice had to be altered to protect his identity.
"While I'm comfortable speaking about my story, I'm not ready for my family to be exposed to it, and to be quite honest, I don't know how they would react hearing it. I'm not there as yet," he said.
All podcasts will be made available on our website under Podcasts, and can also be streamed and downloaded from Apple Podcasts.
Episode one kicks off on Monday, 27 August at 14h26. Tune in daily to walk this journey with this brave man.
