Mpho Maboi to host Inaugural Regional Annual Sports Awards

Black girl magic just keeps showing off its powers within the local entertainment industry. Just recently K Naomi announced that she would be presenting a new reality show alongside American actor Michael Jai White.

Jessica Nkosi continues to do an impeccable job on Our Perfect Wedding as the show's guest presenter, and now Mpho Maboi will be sharpening her skills as the official host of the inaugural Regional Annual Sports Awards.

Mpho will be hosting alongside former Congolese football player and sports analyst, Christopher Bongo.

In a statement, Mpho Maboi expressed that she was absolutely excited and humbled by the opportunity she has been given.

“These awards acknowledge and honor sportsmen and women from across the region, which is made up of 10 African states, I’m honored that I can be a part of it,” Mpho said.

Although Mpho is reaping the rewards of her hard labour, she has admitted that it has not been easy.

In a recent interview, Mpho revealed that her road to success in sports hasn’t been a smooth sailing one, especially when it comes to social media trolls.

In the interview, Mpho mentioned that she’s been the victim of cyberbullying, as people (mostly women) brutally criticise her work, but she has come to learn that her critics are mostly people who can only wish they were in her shoes.

“In the beginning, it used to affect me, social media used to affect me so much. But now I’ve learned that more often then not when someone doesn’t have anything nice to say, it’s easier to be mean," Maboi said.

"What’s also interesting is that when another woman is being mean towards me, I’ve discovered that it’s because they actually want to be in sports. "They’re frustrated somehow and they can’t get in. So they lash out at me because it’s easier which is the saddest thing because it’s easier to just ask me.

"I receive so many e-mails from women who ask me how to get in the sporting industry and I’m the type of person to give you proper feedback. But if you’re going to just gun at me I’m not going to pay you any mind."

The Inaugural Regional Annual Sports Awards will be taking place on the 25th of June.
