A scorcher of a day along the East Coast has ended with people rushing to find their umbrellas to brave an intense storm which took place on Tuesday afternoon.
An intense heatwave, which saw temperatures soar to above 40 degrees Celcius in the northeastern parts of KZN on Tuesday, has ended with severe thunderstorms across the province.
East Coasters and holidaymakers alike had to pack away their cooler boxes and find shelter following a thunderstorm warning which was issued by the South African Weather Service on Tuesday afternoon.
"Severe Thunderstorms- observed and forecast over parts of Ethekwini, Ilembe, uMzinyathi, Amajuba moving towards King Cetshwayo and zululand region (KZN) with (a) possibility of strong damaging winds, heavy downpours and hail today," read a Tweet by the South African Weather Service.

One of the places affected by the heatwave and the thunderstorm was Pietermaritzburg. Newswatch reported that the mercury in the area was up to 40 degrees Celcius in the area.
Footage from the intense storm has been posted to the Storm Report SA Facebook page and has already racked up the views.
