Stranded South Africans can make their way back home

There have been many reports of South Africans stranded in foreign countries after the lockdown was announced.

Social cluster ministers held a briefing on the Covid-19 lockdown on Tuesday 31 March, and one of the topics discussed was bringing South Africans stranded abroad back home.

"Many of our citizens are finding themselves stranded in countries around the world... foreign nationals in South Africa as well," Pandor says.

Foreign nationals can go home, provided their country charters a flight only carrying crew on board, who won't be allowed to disembark.

South African citizens who want to come home can do so if they are in possession of a fully paid return ticket and might have to undergo mandatory quarantine for up to 21 days.
