East Coast Drive talks essentials with Minister of Social Development Nonhlahla Khoza
We are now
one week into the 21-day lockdown enforced to curb the spread of COVID-19 in
South Africa and it is something we’re all becoming accustomed
to, but for
our government, it comes with a whole bunch of new, unprecedented
challenges.

On Thursday, the Drive team had a chat with Honorable Minister Nonhlahla Khoza about the enforcement of the new laws that the government has imposed.

We were able to chat with her about how they are going about helping to enforce the new laws and regulations, and also where it puts the homeless at a time like this.
Here are the questions that were asked:
- Let’s talk about compliance first. On the whole, are our citizens adhering to the new laws set by the national government?
- What provision has been made for sanitisers for those who are out of reach or can’t afford?
- What has been done to provide and protect the homeless and street kids?
- What are the plans in place in terms of grants? Social distancing? Police?
- How are you dealing with indigent people who are without food during this period of the 21-day lockdown?
- And finally... are we in a good space in terms of the 21-day lockdown?
