#WorldPastaDay: Darren Maule's tips for the perfect pasta
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
The 25th of October marks World Pasta Day and who better than our master chef Darren Maule to give us tips on how to make the perfect pasta?!
World Pasta Day was brought into existence as part of the World Pasta Congress on the 25th of October in 1995. We asked our Master Chef winner Darren Maule to share his five top perfect pasta tips!
Here they are, straight from the man himself...
1. Make sure your water is boiling vigorously. Premature insertion of your noodle can lead to performance anxiety in the kitchen.2. Salt and oil the water. Your water should taste like the sea and the oil stops the pasta from sticking.
3. Make sure you have enough water to cover all the pasta. This can be a challenge if you live in Cape Town.
4. Don’t over-cook the pasta. It should be soft on the outside and still a little hard on the inside. (The pasta keeps cooking in its own heat even when drained). No one enjoys a limp noodle, so get this right.
5. Never eat pasta alone. If you are going to go through all this effort to prepare dinner and nobody is there to see it, then just make a jam sandwich.
Enjoy!
