Who is going to be the next James Bond?

Who is going to be the next James Bond?

We sat down with Darren Maule to discuss the burning question on everyone’s mind right now: who will be the next James Bond?

Often spotted in his tux and bow tie as an MC, we sat down with East Coast Radio's very own Bond, Darren Maule, to get his take on who will be the next James Bond.

As our go-to movie expert (we're big fans of his ‘The Dish’ segment), we couldn’t resist asking Darren who he thinks will be crowned the next 007.

With Amazon now owning the hottest spy-movie franchise, the debate about who will be shaking (not stirring) in the next instalment has reached new levels.

Will we be introduced to a young, relative unknown to carry the franchise forward for the next few films? Or will the casting lean toward a current ‘A-lister’? Maybe it's time for a fresh direction, like a female Bond?

Daniel Craig made it official in 2019 – 'No Time to Die' would be his final film as 007. Since then, the rumour mill has been working overtime, speculating on who will step into the iconic role.

We couldn’t help but notice that Darren added a touch of Bond flair to his latest photo shoot. A little tongue-in-cheek charm, perhaps?

Just last week, he was spotted pretending to be 007 while catching a helicopter ride from Virginia Airport to Zimbali Lakes for a round of golf.

“The excitement is real – the next director, storyline and script are yet to be revealed and the intrigue as to who will be the next Bond and for me the next Bond villain, is reaching fever pitch! Come on guys, we are ready for this,” says Darren.

Since Craig made his announcement, we have seen a long list of high-profile names as potential suitors for the iconic role.

“Many know I am a massive Christopher Nolan fan [director of 'Interstellar', 'Inception', 'The Dark Knight' and 'Oppenheimer'], so I can really see him directing some of his alumni such as Aaron Taylor Johnson or Tom Hardy as Bond. I loved Tom Hardy in 'Peaky Blinders' and have often thought he'd make a great Bond.

"I am also a huge Superman fan and with Henry Cavill’s departure, I can definitely see him transition from one iconic role to the next. I mean Robert Pattinson played both Edward Cullen and Batman, and Benedict Cumberbatch played both Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Strange, so why not?

"For years I wanted to see Idris Elba take on the role. He is insanely suave and a magnificent actor but, on many occasions, he has said he would decline the role.

"There are mixed views in our household – my Anna is keen for Henry or Tom while the Gen Z girls are keen for a younger Bond, such as the other Tom – Tom Holland.

"Yip that would be from Spider-man to Bond,” he quips.

“What’s more interesting for me is who will be the villain. Which world leader from which country?

"Without stating the obvious, I think we all know who's currently leading the charge to dismantle democracy and usher in a maniacal totalitarian regime, with his mad scientist sidekick.

"The titles literally write themselves:

  • Elon Way to Die

  • Failed Casino Royale

  • From Russia with Love Actually

  • The Man with the Orange Bum

"All I know is that I cannot wait for the moment we get to hear, ‘The name's Bond, James Bond’ from the new actor and see where this next chapter is going to take us.”
