Are you planning a beach day in Durban this school holiday? Before you pack your swimwear and sunscreen, here’s what you need to know about which beaches are open and which ones are off-limits for swimming.
The eThekwini Municipality has released its latest update on water safety, and while most beaches are good to go, a few still remain closed due to poor water quality.
Beaches closed for swimming
As of March 13, the following five beaches are closed for swimming:
Country Club Beach
Thekwini Beach
Laguna Beach
Reunion Beach
Doonside Beach
While you can’t swim at these beaches, you’re still welcome to enjoy the sand, take a stroll, or soak up the sun.
The municipality will update the status as conditions change, so keep an eye out for further announcements.
Beaches open for swimming
Good news! A total of 18 Durban beaches are open for swimming from 6:00 am to 6:30 pm. These include:
