"We want to uplift everyone's spirits" - Ralf Schmitt on Ndlovu Youth Choir's Christmas offering
Updated | By Darren, Keri and Sky
After the incredible success of one of South Africa's most-loved choirs, Darren wanted to know more about the collaboration between the ensemble and Netflix, as well as their Christmas song.
Many were introduced to the Ndlovu Youth Choir during their incredible run on 'America's Got Talent' in 2019, while some got to know the energetic young group when they put their own twist to Ed Sheeran's hit song, 'Shape Of You'.
After 'America's Got Talent', they received a number of bookings and collaborations they could only dream of. However, Ralf Schmitt, the choirmaster, tells Darren that lockdown has been difficult and has forced them to become innovative.

"We transformed our rehearsal venue into a green screen studio. So we've been doing shows and virtual shows, and we placed the choir onto different stages and producing content.
"We've actually been busier than we thought we would be. It's been crazy actually."
Schmitt also revealed their collaboration with Netflix for a festive song titled, 'Square Root of Possible', from the streaming service's holiday film, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Adventure.

The Ndlovu Youth Choir is known to inspire the nation, not just through the choir member's individual personal stories, but also through their music. The music ensemble has remade Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'.
Giving the song an "African feel", the choir dedicated it to the older generation as the group feels that there has been lots of loneliness this year with the pandemic.
